Teacher says IDEA Public Schools fired him over ‘deepfake AI’ claim

From there, the complaint describes a pattern of unequal treatment. The teacher, a 51-year-old man, alleges he was given classrooms that “lacked the laboratory infrastructure, safety equipment, and other resources” his subject required, while a female colleague hired to teach a related course got a newly furnished lab with a fume hood, eyewash station, and safety shower. He also alleges he was moved into a room with cameras that an IT director told him were still recording video and audio, despite written assurances they were switched off. 

The part HR professionals will notice most is the discipline itself. The complaint alleges a newly hired manager logged “factually inaccurate” classroom observations, and that administrators merged unrelated incidents to “manufacture a pretextual disciplinary record alleging Plaintiff used ‘deepfake AI.’” The filing says the network’s own IT audit of his keystrokes and network traffic “confirmed that no AI-image-generation websites had been accessed.” He was fired on December 10, 2025. 

The teacher also claims IDEA never filed the reports to state education and child-welfare agencies that would normally follow a termination for the “serious misconduct” it cited – an omission he says undercuts the reason IDEA gave for firing him. 

He raised sex and age discrimination and retaliation with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which issued a Notice of Right to Sue on May 27, 2026. His lawsuit brings four claims: retaliation for protected speech, sex discrimination under Title VII, age discrimination under the ADEA, and a due process claim over records he says have damaged his ability to work in his field. 

For HR leaders, the case is a useful prompt on process: how an investigation weighs the employer’s own digital evidence, how comparable roles are resourced, and whether the paperwork behind a “serious misconduct” exit matches the reports such an exit usually triggers. The “deepfake AI” element is the novel wrinkle – a reminder that an accusation of AI misuse invites scrutiny of the investigation behind it.
