Sandwich caregivers eyeing work exits amid growing care roles

More than half of sandwich caregivers also said they have turned down a promotion or new opportunity (55%) because of care responsibilities, while another 55% said they have considered completely leaving the workplace.
These situations come while they hide the full extent of their care responsibilities from their employers (66%) amid fears that their employers will see them as less committed (56%).
“Dual responsibilities don’t only limit caregivers’ time and energy. This level of care also rewrites the plan for growing their family, finances, and the future,” the report read.
How can employers help?
Care.com previously advised employers to provide meaningful benefits that can help support the sandwich generation. This includes gathering information and understanding the needs of these workers.
Employers should also consider providing them access to a care network, as well as expert guidance who can offer customised referrals for caregiving options.
