Are managers prepared for layoff conversations?

The report found that only 42% of senior and middle HR managers feel ready to lead through future challenges, significantly lower than those in the C-suite (66%).

It also noted that executives are more likely to believe managers are receiving the preparation they need amid an evolving workplace, such as training on organisational change and restructuring, as well as training on career development for evolving roles.

Mark Saddic, senior partner at Careerminds, stressed that today’s leaders are handling more than just managing performance in the workplace. They are also now helping employees navigate AI, organisational transformation, shifting career paths, and increasing uncertainty.

“The role of the manager has fundamentally changed,” Saddic said. “Organisations cannot assume confidence equals capability. Managers need practical support, ongoing development and the tools to lead through continuous change.”

Organisational success will not be based on how fast workplaces can adopt new technologies, according to Saddic.
