Travelers worker alleges title stripped days after racial bias complaint

The employee resigned on approximately June 1, 2026, according to the complaint. The filing says her resignation letter described continuing discriminatory and retaliatory treatment, harm to her professional and psychological wellbeing, denial of professional growth, injury to her professional reputation, and Travelers’ failure to address or resolve her complaints.

At the time of her resignation, according to the complaint, Travelers had not restored her Senior Analyst title, had not provided meaningful information about her advancement, had not told her the complained-of conditions had been addressed, and had not indicated the environment that triggered her medical leave had changed.

The filing says Travelers classified her departure as a “voluntary leaving” and told her she would receive no severance. The complaint argues the working conditions were so intolerable that a reasonable person in her position would have felt compelled to resign – what employment law calls constructive discharge, where an employer’s conduct effectively forces an employee out even though no formal firing takes place.

The EEOC issued a Determination and Notice of Rights on June 18, 2026. It stated it would not proceed further with its investigation and made no determination on whether further investigation would establish violations. The determination noted this did not mean the claims lacked merit and did not certify that Travelers was in compliance with the law.

The lawsuit brings four counts: race discrimination and retaliation under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and race discrimination and retaliation under a separate federal civil rights statute. The complaint seeks back pay, front pay, lost benefits, compensatory damages for emotional distress and reputational harm, punitive damages, and attorney’s fees. The employee has demanded a jury trial.
