Honeywell settles HR director’s age bias claim



Honeywell has agreed to settle an age bias lawsuit filed by a former senior HR director for the company, according to court documents filed Monday.

The HR pro, represented by Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak and Stewart filed, suit in April. Initially, the plaintiff claimed, he received positive feedback and acclaim for his job performance when he joined the company in mid-2020. The new supervisor to which the plaintiff reported in December 2020 rated his performance as substandard, refused him an improvement plan, asked him to train a young replacement and fired him in March 2021.

Additionally, the plaintiff claimed that he was treated differently than his younger colleagues — namely, his supervisor often canceling their one-on-one meetings, but maintaining meetings with younger workers. This showed that the company was “sabotaging” his employment because of his age, the director alleged.

Honeywell previously did not respond to HR Dive for comment; the plaintiff’s attorney did not respond to HR Dive regarding the settlement by the time of publication.
