BBC and Channel 4 brace for job cuts amid challenging media landscape

It is aimed at making the broadcaster more efficient by reducing management layers, removing duplication, and simplifying decision-making, according to its announcement.
“These decisions have not been taken lightly, but I strongly believe they are necessary to create a simpler, more focused, and more sustainable Channel 4 that can invest a greater proportion of revenues into distinctive content, back British creativity and deliver impact for audiences long into the future,” said Priya Dogra, chief executive of Channel 4.
A formal consultation process will be carried out with affected employees “in due course.”
Dogra acknowledged that the proposals will be “very difficult” for many employees, as she underscored the need for a “fundamental transformation” at Channel 4 amid a rapidly changing media landscape, which the broadcaster said includes evolving audience habits, increasing global competition, a challenging consumer environment, and a volatile advertising market.
“Today marks the first phase of our transformation, ensuring Channel 4 is the right shape and size to deliver its future strategy and focus investment in the programmes audiences love,” the chief executive said.
